It was a dark and stormy night……..…Oh! that’s another story——
All company stories are the same and different. And so it is with ours. Our company was founded in 1933 by Morris (Mac) H. Mandel. Originally it did many different things all having to do with the automotive industry; gasoline, parking, automotive repair and last but not least car washing. When asked why he was successful in so many aspects of business, he said in his opinion, he wasn’t. He had had failures but owed his modest success to his business philosophy; “Whatever you do, do it better than anyone else who is doing the same thing and you can’t help but be a success.”
Named after the 1930’s and 1940’s St. Louis Cardinals Gas House Gang, who were known for playing good baseball and winning World Series while having fun (it is a game isn’t it?). Their approach and practices sums up this modern day Gas House. “All for the fans—- oh sorry, we mean customers”.
Instead of reinventing the wheel, we have drawn upon Mac’s philosophy coupled with a passion for car washing to make it fun for the customers and crew to define present day Gas House.
As a team dedicated to providing quality service and ever increasing high standards, we are hard to define because we are constantly changing. We don’t fear change. On the other hand, we appreciate that while it is sometimes uncomfortable; it is usually good, and recognize that it is always inevitable.
We use terms like one-of-a-kind, unique, and off-the-wall because we know different is not only desirable, but better. Our customers have come to expect this of us. They deserve it. They also know they have fun when they visit us. Fun is important. We don’t take ourselves too seriously. This may be due to our sense of humor, our attitude, or maybe we just have a superior state of mind. One thing is certain; we make people feel good!
This is what Gas House has always been, is today, and will be even more tomorrow.
Oh, and by the way, we wash cars!
